Abstract

Background: Effective health technology management (HTM) is essential for delivering safe, equitable, and quality health care. However, the rising costs of healthcare, driven in part by advancing medical technology, pose a challenge to health systems globally.Rapid Response Question: This rapid response addresses the management of medical goods and services, focusing on the applicability of various management models for expensive medical goods.Findings: Health technology management encompasses several elements, including procurement processes, considerations for solicitation and provision of donated goods/services, medical equipment inventory management, maintenance programs, computerized maintenance management systems, safe use of medical devices, measuring clinical effectiveness and commissioning of the devices. There are various models for health technology management, and the selection of an appropriate model is crucial for integrating HTM into existing health management and delivery systems. Conclusion: Effective health technology management is vital for ensuring safe and equitable health service delivery. The chosen management approach should be integrated into the existing health system and may involve a combination of different models, along with a robust regulatory framework to maintain quality and standards.
