Abstract

Background: Hepatitis B is a major global occupational health hazard, with healthcare workers having a higher prevalence of HBV infection than the general population. Vaccination is recommended to reduce the incidence of infection among these workers.Rapid Response Question: What are the effects and guidelines of mass immunization of health workers against Hepatitis B?Findings: Hepatitis B vaccines, including plasma-derived (PDV) and recombinant (RV) vaccines, significantly reduce hepatitis B events. The route of vaccine administration affects its efficacy, with the deltoid intramuscular route being more effective than the gluteal. There's no significant difference between different doses of the same-route vaccines or vaccines from different countries. However, Engerix vaccine shows higher efficacy than Recombivax. Conclusion: Hepatitis B vaccination is crucial for protecting health workers, reducing infections and the need for post-exposure prophylaxis. The evidence supports current guidelines for hepatitis B vaccine administration, emphasizing the importance of the deltoid intramuscular route.
