Summary
Background: On January 10, 2022, all schools in Uganda reopened after almost two years. The reopening coincided with the peak of the third surge of SARS-CoV-2 attributed to the Omicron variant. Findings: Strategies to control within-school SARS-CoV-2 transmission include Covid-19 vaccination, mandating face masks, hand hygiene, disinfecting facilities, reducing class sizes, enforcing physical distancing, ventilation, and testing strategies. Conclusion: Schools can effectively control transmissions of SARS-CoV-2 even during periods of moderate to high intensity without closing or isolating children.
