Summary

Background: Steam bathing, practiced globally and increasingly in Uganda, involves exposure to heat in a confined space. Despite its popularity, the health effects of steam bathing remain a concern for health officials. Findings: Steam bathing presents both benefits and risks. Benefits include decongestion of respiratory systems and relief from chronic inflammatory pains. Cardiovascular effects are generally safe for healthy individuals when used in moderation. Conclusion: Steam bathing, when practiced in moderation, is generally safe for healthy individuals and may offer therapeutic benefits.
