Summary
Background: National accreditation systems aim to provide accreditation services to healthcare facilities. Accreditation can be used at the national level for external assessment of health services and as a tool for organizational development. Findings: Four models of accreditation were identified: the Traditional Accreditation Model, the Focused Accreditation Model, Outcome-based Accreditation, and other approaches like ISO certification. Conclusion: LMICs can adopt several accreditation models for health service providers. The choice should consider factors such as costs, benefits, legal frameworks, and the healthcare environment.
