Summary
Background: A number of low- and middle-income countries are increasingly using research evidence in policymaking and practice. Despite this increase, they face many obstacles in evidence-based decision-making. Findings: Policymakers should reflect on five key questions about organizational capacity to use research evidence, strategies for collaboration, independence, systematic methods, and sufficient capacity to employ these methods. Conclusion: Policymakers are encouraged to use research evidence in their decision-making. Organizations should systematically address the five key questions to improve the use of research evidence in health policy decisions.
