Abstract

The burden of untreated reconstructible disease in East Africa is enormous. In particular, there are many unrepaired congenital anomalies such as cleft lip and palate, late presenting cancers, burns, and trauma patients. There are few plastic surgeons in this vast region. Within Uganda, there are only 5 trained plastic surgeons for a population of 31 million people. CoRSU (Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for the people of Uganda) Rehabilitation Hospital is a not for-profit hospital treating disability in the areas of Orthopedics and Plastic surgery. At CoRSU, we are performing a wide range of reconstructive procedures and are actively involved in training young surgeons and developing training programs.
